THe Router’s status and activity is monitored using Tether (app available for iOS as well as Android devices).

THe Archer AC1900 lags behind other routers for short distance Wi-Fi speeds. The TP-Link AC1900  only 1 USB 3.0 port with the rest of them being 2.0. A built-in VPN server is also missing.  Another shortcoming is its low storage performance and cannot be laid flat or wall mounted due to the fixed stand.

The 2.4 GHz band supports 600Mbps and the 5 GHZ band supports 1300 Mbps that makes a total 1.9Gbps Bandwidth.

The Archer router uses Wi-Fi AC1900 speeds supporting the 802.11ac standard. Supports simultaneous dual band networks, using the 5GHz band for 4k video streaming and online gaming with no lag and the 2.4GHz band for other everyday tasks. Contains a powerful 1GHz dual-core processor to handle wired and wireless connections simultaneously without interruption, and USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports to share printers, media and files across devices easily. The guest Network feature provides secure access to guests. Parental Controls allow deployment of restricted access for children or employees. A black and white list can be easily maintained using URL blocking for safe and limited use of internet.

TP-Link has kept a very modest design approach, unlike many of D-Link and Netgear’s high-end routers.

Featuring a smooth glossy front with a curvy surface and a silver-painted stand at the back, with three white matte aerial antennas sticking out from the top.   Seems an elegant design from the look of it would surely please anyone who’s a fan of Apple hardware. The elegance doesn’t matter much if a product lacks practicality as in the case of this particular router. There’s no option to wall mount the router and the stand prevents it from lying flat.  This router can easily tip over if not positioned correctly.

The status lights (indicating power, Wi-Fi, Internet connection statuses)  show  different symbols that are easy to differentiate. This differs from most of the Netgear’s routers that are uniform rectangles.

Round the back from left to right are the USB 2.0 port, WPS/reset button, Ethernet socket that connects to the modem and 4 other Ethernet ports followed by the power switch and the socket.

There is a  USB 3.0 port on the side of the modem.


Setting up the modem is quite easy, plug in everything and browse to . Now you just need to set your admin password and the Wi-Fi name and password. The dashboard provides easy to understand User Interface. In the basic tab you can see your network layout.

There is literally no need to download or install any software.  All setup is done using the tether app.


The odd look of TP-Link AC1900 is outweighted by its performance.
